Attention getter question

By maxwell edison ·
This question was opened as an attention getter intended as a notice to all those people who, thus far, have posted an answer to my laptop/network question.

All of the answers (up thru answer 31) have been addressed – either comments made and/or their questions answered. You may want to review the added comments, as there has been a lot of additional information provided in those comments.

I’m trying a lot of different things, but I’m trying them one at a time so I can determine the exact cause. I don’t want to try four or five things at once and find myself in the position of not knowing which one was the culprit. Therefore, this may be a long and drawn-out process. (But hopefully, not too long.)

Most all of the answers have been helpful, at least to some degree - some much more so than others, to be sure. In the very least, having other computer networking professionals willing to bounce ideas off of has been an extremely helpful process - many thanks to all who have taken the time to try to help. Therefore, most (or maybe all) of the answers to that question will indeed be accepted and the points distributed accordingly.

However, a 15,000 point bonus will be awarded to the answer (or answers) that came (or will come) the closest to pin-pointing the culprit.

An update:

At this point in time, the laptop in question loses the network connection about once a day – but not at the same time every day. But this is certainly better than several times a day – and perhaps it's even a clue.

So on itgoes, and I’m still searching for the definitive answer.

Many thanks,

Maxwell Edison

Try to test this. When you loose the connection open a cmd window and type in Ipconfig /release. Then type in Ipconfig /renew. If you can get on the network after that it may have something to do with the server and or the DHCP service.

I knowit isn't a solution but It is something I would try in troubleshooting.

Tons of luck.

Thanks for the suggestion. You're right, it's not a solution but could possibly help in troubleshooting. The purpose of this particular question was to give 15,000 points to someone who could pin-point the exact solution. So, unfortunately, I have to reject this. But if you post another answer in my original question, I'll accept it so you do indeed get a share of the points. Thanks.

Hi

Comment from my previous answer
Usually this happen if there is a bent pin inside the RJ45 plug inside the laptop or the rj45 plug in the wall
Check the plug PINS in both sides the laptop the RJ45 plug in the wall then use a needle to straight and fix the pins.
Check the cable between the wall plug and the hub and the hub and the switch.
Check if there is a bad network card in the network which flood the network with bad packets.
Check the length of the cable limitation is it more than the limit 100 meters?

Good luck

Mohamed

I've tried all possible cable issues. This is not a cable issue. Thanks anyway.

Check the power options of the Network Interface Card, it may be set to shutdown, to save power.

Power saving features are not the problem. Refer to ALL the other answers suggesting the same thing. Thanks anyway.
