ATX Power Supply blew up on power up

by robertjolicoeur . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

I am using Windows 2000 pro, a PIII 733mhz, not overclocked, with a 300W ATX power supply, with a 3 com NIC card, a GeForce 4 MX video card, an Intel modem, 236 MB SDRAM. a Pioneor 16X DVD. I had a problem upgrading my video card to the GE Force from a SIS 8MB. After finally reinstalling Windows 2000 and all the updates, after turning pc off from the shut down feature, the computer would not auto shut down I had to turn the power off rom the power supply. When I turneed the pc back on the powersupply just started smoking and DVD door was ejected. I quicly unhooked the power supply and installed a new power supply, whne turning on pc the hard drive would not spin and would not boot, I expect that it could be from the video card. Anyone have any clues. I am really searchign for an answer on this one. I never saw a power supply blow like that.
