Audio Card drivers

By honu95 ·
Hello,

Dell Precision 340, XP pro sp2. Creative labs SB Audigy2 card.

1. Is it necessary to have the onbaord analog audio drivers installed in order for the pci drivers to work?

2. If this card originally came from another newer machine, will it not work with this 340 for some reason?

I inserted the driver CD for both the newer one and the 340 but it didn't recognize the sound card. However, DeviceMngmt recognizes it as a multimedia device, however it remains uninstalled.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You should first go into the BIOS and disable the onboard sound if you want to use the PCI card. Then try reinstalling the drivers but get them from Creative's website so you have the newest ones. If that still doesn't work, try moving the card to another PCI slot.

Thanks for the response. I went to the creative website, and after looking hard for the right one, I found the latest driver. It works when installed on another 340 machine. On machineA, a card similar to its original card was installed in the same PCI slot and it works fine.

Must be a weird incompatibility with machineA and the creative audigy2...

This question lifted some point for future reference regarding the installation of audio card drivers
