Audio Properties are greyed out.

by swampdonk3y . Updated 19 years ago

Hello,
I have decided to post this because I am at my wits end. I have a Toshiba Laptop, don’t think the exact model matters. I have recently shut down the system and upon rebooting the system I find I have no sound. I am using Realtek audio, the device driver is installed and yes I have tried reinstalling the driver already. I have checked services.msc to see if the Windows Audio Service is started, it is. I have even gone so far as to manually remove the .dll associated with the sound drivers all to no avail.
I have tried using a USB 2.0 to audio converter and to my dismay it works. This problem has happened once before…I backed up my data and formatted my system…I would like to aviod this if at all possible. I have been searching the internet, reading forums and banging my face against my desk for about 4 hours now. If anyone has a suggestion short of me formatting my system again I would greatly appreicate it. Thank you in advance.
