By Rohintonsc ·
I am using winxp sp2 with IE6. I have the option to automatically delete temp files from the IE 6 options/advanced menu when i exit or close my browser. Any ideas as to how i can automatically delete cookies and history when i exit or close the IE browser. I am using licenced os at work. Pl advice.
Thanks

The only settings within Internet Explorer I'm aware of is to limit the days the history is kept, with 0 being the lowest, and limit the size of the cookies folder to say 50meg. This won't clear out after each IE exit, but will limit the amount IE will hang on to. There are several ie shells, browser add ons that will do this for you, Public Web Browser by TeamSoftware which is a very good one. We use this on all of our public machines to allow anonimity for the Patrons. Another one is MYIE2 (http://www.myie2.com/html_en/home.htm), which has a clear all button, I'm not sure if it can be set to automatic. I'll be watching this discussion, to see if IE has SOMEWAY to do this easier:)

I have always kept my history settings to zero days and have never understood why it is not deleted even when the machine has / has not been used for a couple of days. Finally i settled for a manual cleanup from IE options, but still had to go to windows folder for a complete cleanup. The freeware in answer 2 does help as deletion is fast but the services that i need are a paid service.

This freeware will take care of the history but I'm still working on the cookies. There's a ton of programs out there that will do what you want but they're not free.
