    AUTO DETECT FRAME TYPE

    I have an HP Omnibook XE3 laptop running Windows 2000. I installed on it Novell Client 4.8. If I do not change the frame type from auto detect to 802.3, the laptop is unable to login to my novell network. My problem is that this laptop also needsto connect to a network that is 802.2. The laptop has an Accton EN2242 series minipci fast ethernet adapter. I did download and install the lastest driver for this nic from the HP web site. Other than manually changning the frame type, how can I resolve this issue?

      Just a suggestion, but can you not have it set to manual and then enter both frame types? Another way may be to setup two separate hardware profiles, at bootup, you can choose either one depending on the network you are logging into.

        I thought this would work, but it did not. Hardware profiles only reflect hardware changes, and not they way they are configured.

      2 things to try:
      * Check in your device manager if it really took the driver you downloaded. Win2000 can pretend to install it and then still use it’s own driver instead.

      * Instead of using the Novell client, try using the Microsoft for Netware one. We solved a lot of cases like that.

      Of course you should also contact Accton…
      In the device manager take the properties for the card and check for other “Advanced” settings. This differs for every card so…

      Depending on how complex is your driver (nic) software, you can:
      1,. Set 802.2 manula frame detection in order to join the Nw network, plus the the lan number which should be any UNIQUE number in the network
      2.- Change the deafult order (reccomended) in order to check first to 802.2 and then 802.3, again, the network number unique.
