    auto-detecting SATA1 is locking up

    i am installing a new mobo with existing hard drive… upon detecting the HDD thru the sata1 port, the computer locks up..it does detect the HDD number but will not proceed… upon manual restart, the bios shows no sata1 detected…

      In some motherboards, there are different modes that the SATA ports can be set to, including RAID mode. If there is a speed setting, you may try adjusting that as well.

      An update of the bios might be needed.

      Go to the makers web site and download the bios update. This will make the detection of the drives easier. To do this you will need a “IDE” drive to start off with, then download the bios update, once it has detected your SATA hdd then just do a full copy/clone to the drive.
