Try Ctrl+Alt+Del,
Then go to Applications and see which programs are running. YOu might find the application there. You can also use the "Go to Process" option and search for that PROGRAM???.exe that is trying to update/connect.

Have you checked your anit-virus update schedulers?

Are you using Instant Messaging? When the client loads, it will try to make an Internet request, and this will trigger the dialup process. More than likely it's a virus, though.

This is a problem that I ran across recently where one home computer had made over 400 calls in one month to attempt to gain Internet Access.

In this case the user had Auto Update turned on and it was causing the problem as whenever it wanted to look for any new updates it would make a connection have a look see and then hang up after not finding anything new.

However do the obvious things scan for Mal ware and Virus in Safe Mode and then turn off the ability to Auto Dial in the modem connection Setup Window.

Hi,

As stated earlier, check your AV auto update.

Nodtron has a dialler that defaults to hourly updates
