Auto Logon Registry Entries for Win95/98

By jeff ·
What registry entries would you use to automatically log-in a workstation on an NT Domain Network WITHOUT using TweakUI?? I have tried the two entries under the :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

AutoAdminLogon "1"
DefaultPassword "password"

But they don't work, so I must be missing some other Reg Entry to make this work.

On the NT computer, go to the Client For Windows Networks [VRedir] section and edit the following line:

set Validated Logon=1

Now try with your settings.

To enable this function you need to add several new values to the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows \CurrentVersion\Winlogon] key.

1. Add a new value of 'DefaultUserName' and set the data to the username you wish to automatically logon as.

2. Add a new value of 'DefaultPassword' and set this to the password for the username above.

3. Add a new value of 'DefaultDomainName' and set this to the domain of the user.

4. Add a new value of 'AutoAdminLogon' and set it to either '1' to enable auto logon or '0' to disable.

5. Exit and reboot, Windows should not ask for a password and automatically show the desktop of the user.

May be this will help....

For some reason this didn't work. I know some of these options work on an NT workstation, but I'm working on a Win95/98 Workstation. Sorry for not being more clear in my question, my fault!

Damn! my answer has just been given. I use it at work for an mail transfer PC so I know it works.
One other thing though.
If you ever want to log back on as a different user name, hold the Shift key down as you log off user from the shutdown dialog box. This will then pause at the logon screen to let you change to another user (such as administrator) without having to hack into the registry again. Once you have finished, log back in again, choosing your auto login user (you will need to enter it again this time) and then the autologin will work once more.
