Auto Logout from NT 4.0 Network

Can't backup network files because the files are left open by users who have left for the day. If users are setup with time limits, will the NT network close the open files in an orderly fashion preventing data corruption?

It depends on how you are attempting to have someone "logged off". If the server closes the files, it's a crapshoot. No guarantees on file integrity. I've had mixed results in this regard and have generally avoided the issue. How? With tape backup options. Seagate/Arcserve/etc have Open File Option agents that should resolve this for you. If you aren't using one of these, check out Open File Manager from St Bernard Software - it integrates with any tape software.

NT will not close any open files after the time limit, it will only not allow those users to log on after the time limit. I'm not familiar enough with 3rd party software to know if there are any out there that will take care of that.
