Auto Responding to messages in Exchange

By j_most ·
Hello,

Does anyone know how I would do this in exchange 2000 with a mailbox that is set up as a mail enabled user? It is not a public folder. Would a public folder be the best way to go?

Thanks for your input

James

Auto Responding to messages in Exchange

You could handle the autoreplies in the same way you would with a regular user mailbox. In other words, logged on as the user that owns the mailbox, you would open Outlook and set rules for that mailbox just as you would for any other mailbox. Forexample, if you wanted to have an automatic reply saying "Ok,OK, I GOT your stupid email!" sent as a reply to every email that came in, you could do this as a rule in the mailbox (Tools/Rules) - start from a blank rule, don't use a template, and be sure to use only options that the server can process. If you do this correctly so that it is a server-side rule, it should work even if the Outlook mailbox is never opened on the desktop. You can tell if a rule is a server-based rule because if it'snot, you will see the words "(client-only)" next to the rule on the list. If you see this, then you have to change one of your parameters so that the server can process the rule without your having to open Outlook on the desktop. I think, however, that this depends on having Outlook 2000/XP on the desktop - I don't think server-side rules were available with prior versions of Outlook. Hope this helps!
