Auto Respones to email

By scottw ·
I would like to set up an auto respone to email that comes in for Jobs. I set up the rule wizard in Outlook 98. But with no luck it will not auto respone to the emails when they are recieved. I also already unchecked the do not send auto respone on the Exchange 5.5 server.

Auto Respones to email

I'll make some assumptions here: 1) The initial email is being delivered to your Inbox without problems. 2) You can respond to the message manually without any problems.

If so, I would suspect something is wrong w/ your rule. I'm basing my response on Outlook 2000, so I may be off (but I think they've very close). Do you have it selected to run the rule automatically? To be sure it will run as soon as a message enters your Inbox (vs a manual run) the first option should read "Check messages when they arrive." Once you are done creating your rule make sure it doesn't say "(client only)" after it. If it does, this rule will only run when Outlook is running. I can't remember if Outlook 98 shows you what your rule looks like in "sentence" format or not, but if it does, it should look something like this:

Apply this rule after a message arrives sent to jobs@yourcompany.com have server respond with message.

jobs@yourcompany.com would need to be in your contacts for the rule to be server based.

Hope this helps,

Initial email is being recieved, can manually responed to it.

Upgraded machine to 2000 with 2000 office. Set up rule with no luck. Jobs is in the contacts.

I will keep trying, but I just dont see anything that is wrong.

Thanks

Auto Respones to email

Hi, Outlook 2000 & 98 both have facilities for creating rules, where in when a email arrives, it can be "ruled" to be sent to a particular folder & a auto reply generated & sent beck to the sender.

A good place to start would seem, to me anyway, to be what rule you have set up in Outlook.
