I have installed a 'matched/combo MB and processor'. Nothing is on board but power, 512 MB Memory and PCI VIDEO card. Running XP Pro. System beeps once then shuts down? There is a cpu fan attched to processor. Both it and chasis fan are running.

New Case or old case?

What the power supply wattage?

CPU make and model?

Systemboard make and model?

From the little info provided it does sound like a heat issue. But give us a little help in helping you.

Try running it with the cover off and see if that helps keep it running at least through POST. Check your systemboard manual for beep codes. One beep is usually normal.

Does the video turn on? Video specs would also help. Maker and model and RAM?

It due to over heating of the processer. there is a Black substance at the base of the cpu coolen (fan). when that is gone or too little. the processer will be over heated and shut down base on the temp set in the bios.Call the help line to get a one to one replacement of the cpu coolen. the Nos is at the processer manual.

Thanks!!!! It was a heat problem. Fan was not connected right. I had not peeled off the shipping tape. I had 'thought' it was suppost to be there since it was firmlt stuck on it. No contact...lots of heat...real quick.
Thanks again.

Your answers were 'right on', my problem was heat. My fan was not making complete contact.
Thank you all.
