Autochanging Internet Explorer Home Page

By don.lipsett ·
I am currently supporting 400+ desktop PC's and we recently added a company intranet page that our VIP's want to be the Internet start page on all our PC's. All our workstations are Windows 95 PC's running IE 4.01 SP2. I would like to find a way to change the start page to "channel" on all our PC's without going to each workstation (they are scattered throughout 3 different cities), either using login scripts, or VB. Barring that, I have the registry key saved as a .reg file if I could get that to run without user interaction. Please advise.

You could run regedit in the login script to make command line changes to the registry. Examples of using regedit in the login script are here:

I recommend Regini from the Resource kit. I suggest that you use it as the 'engine' to change the default pages back and forth.

Also the WSH (Windows scripting host) could be used in conjuction with VBScript.

We accomplished a similar change by running a Kixtart script from a login script. If you've already identified the key, you can put it all together very quickly.

You can find information on Kixtart (and download it as well) on the Web site at kixtart.org.

regards!

If you are supporting 400 users yowould surely be using the login Script to Map drives Etc. Run the .reg file from within the login Script.

Could not be simpler
