autochk program

I have a 2000 pro computer that if in a reboot loop. it goes through post then starts to load the os. Then I get the error autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK then reboots. I can't get it to load in safe mode or last known. I can't get a dos prompt. can someone help me please.

It sounds like the system may have found errors on the HDD, and since it cannot check for errors it reboots. From this point, try placing the HDD in another unit and run chkdsk with error recovery.

If not, use the CMOS utility to checkout the drive.

Did both still nothing when put back as master. Still getting the same error. while booted as slave can see and run CHKDSK. it fixes errors but when put back as master still get the same errors.

What happens if you boot to a repair option with the original Windows disc?
can a repair be run? Try backing up all data and reloading .
Also, think about replacing the drive if it continues to error even after chkdsk fixes it.

You can also look on the manufacturers site and see if they have a low level formatter or other means to recover a drive going bad.
