By nadine-r ·
i have 30 computers with windows 2000 pro. they are connected via tcp/ip connection to a main server.
i need a way to copy files(for all the computer) locally in a folder on each machine wich is on the c drive from one computer of them and not from the server, how can i do it without having to logon on each computer.

I'm not sure I completely understand where you are copying the files to, but have you tried connecting to the clients via the admin(C$) share? If you can hit one machine from the Run dialog you can probably write a .bat file with "net use" and perform the operation on all the other machines.

If this is going to occur more than once, you could share a folder on each of the machines. If you run a domain, you could then create one user with full control rights to that specific folder on each machine, and then in future just copy it over the network like you would in explorer. If you need to install apps in the same way. you can use RIS.

I interpret your requirement to be:
1. Copy all files from each computer to a back up folder in the C: drive.
2. Do this through a central administrator account.
3. Do this without logging into each computer.

I suggest this as a solution:
1. Share all computer files on a read only basis to the central account, and that account only.
2. Create a writeable folder on each computer in the C: drive for the central administrator account.
3. Create a batch file to run periodically and copy the data from each computer to the writeable drive.

I would try a login script if this is something that you will have to do frequently. Using "net use" to get to the specific pc and then a batch file to complete the file operation.
