Automatic logon

By tke402 ·
Hello all,

Is there a way to automatically have a username logon to a specific computer? I know this can be done with Windows 2000 in a workgroup environment but these PCs are on a domain. They are part of an "internet lounge". At times the usersmay reboot the machines then the logon screen comes on but I don't want to worry the users about knowing a username and passsword. I heard tweak UI does this but isn't there a way to do this natively???

Thanks,

Chris

The option to automatically logon to a computer is available only if you are not in a domain environment. In a work group environment, use the Users and Passwords applet in controll panel, and select the option to automatic logon. This option is only visible if you're not in a domain environment.

Hi, Yes you are correct. TweakUI does allow a user to logon without entering the name or password. This program simply modifies the registry with the appropriate settings. To my knowledge the only way to logon automatically is to have some program run which will modify the registry.

Note: TweakUI does work in a domain environment, I have used it with success. We had a WEB server that took a long time to reboot. Because there was a specific program that needed to after logon, the staffdid not want to wait the 30 minutes to logon. If they went to another task, they may forget and then the WEB server would not be available to our customers. Therefore TweakUI was used.

For our needs, it was perfec, but you will need to evaluate your requirements and your environment to see if this is what you should use.
Best of luck

well you know about Tweak UI , that it does that job,

but i want to intoduce you the one thing and that is registery...

through windows registery you can do this but beware microsoft dosent give any helpback if you interfere with windows registery

so open run from start menu and then type "winreg"

go to H_key local machine and search in the hierarchy you will find where do you have to input the username and password so from that time you will be able to log on automatally..

thanks
