Automatic recognition failure with USB flash drive

    Locked

    by djohnadams ·

Does anybody have any suggestions as to why a USB Flash Drive Data Storage devise works perfectly on my laptop and two PCs that I have, but on a third PC (supposedly with the same XP windows), there is no ‘plug and play’ automatic recognition,
but windows appears to search for a non existant driver?

        Any networked drives?

I had this problem at work, several network drives are occupying the physical addresses that removable storage usually adopt. You can solve this problem by going into the Computer Management services application and then access Disk Management. Once you are there, physically remap your USB drive to a higher (unused letter like U or V). Then, assuming all other things are OK, when you insert your USB drive, the computer should recognize it as the new drive letter.
        Hope this is helpful.

Can’t see USB drive in disk management

Have the same problem and followed gudance to change the drive letter but I couldn’t see the USB drive. Tried moving other devices to higher letters to free up E and F didn’t work either. System still seems to want a driver. The drive is a Corsair Flash Voyager 2G. System is XP SP2. The drive works perfectly at the shop where I bought it. Btw, the drive and INF files to support this are both installed. Thnx
