automatic Windows Messenger at log in?

By JADavis9 ·
I seem to have a problem with Windows Messenger not starting automatically at log in. If I go to Start and click it, it starts and I am logged in already when it displays. And I have it checked in Tools-Options-Preferences to Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts. But I don't ever see an icon in the task bar until I go to Start and click on Windows Messenger. And I sure don't have it disabled at startup in MSCONFIG or cCleaner. Hmmm

I do see Windows Live Messenger in All Programs - Windows Live. Should I switch and might that fix it?

not sure

but it wouldn't hurt to switch, live messenger has nicer features and is more up-to-date - user friendly. When you first install it, the default settings will allow for it to load up when you start your pc. On a side note, I sometimes find when I can't get a program that I've been using for ages to work properly, uninstall it and reinstall (reboot in between) and things should be all good. Doesn't hurt to run ccleaner after uninstalling too, clear the registry (but back it up), reinstall the latest greatest and thing should work ok. Let us know if it works ok.

cool - I switched

Cool! I switched to Windows Live Messenger and it works as I had hoped for. I was using the older Windows Messenger v4.7. So now I am fixed up.

cCleaner on registry

by JADavis9 In reply to not sure

I have been avoiding that part of cCleaner. Is it OK to use and should I keep the backups it offers if I use it?

i also keep a back up

by PurpleSkys In reply to cCleaner on registry

just create a folder on your desktop call it back ups and save them there; that way if anything does go wrong, you at least have a back up.

Which version of Windows Messenger do you use?
Which version of Windows?

If you have recently migrated to Windows 7, then you'll notice that this OS has a new way to handle what icons are shown in the notification area.

by JADavis9 In reply to More info, please...
