automatically loose drive mappings

By alexjp ·
I currently have all my users mapped to various locations on my NT domain network. The user workstations are all Win2000 Pro's, and for some reason now and then the drive mappings have a red 'X' as if they have been discunnected from the network.
Does any one know why this occurs, and how to prevent this?

There are several reasons why this occurs. Win2K pro will mark those drives as unavailable if they do not keep a drive alive notice in the time allocatd. Also, running Microsoft Office 97 will cause the lose of mapped drives. This usually shows up more in NetWare networks but it does happen in NT domains. The server may be servicing too many users and not able to respond as quickly as 2000 expects. Do the NT workstations have this problem? I would expect very rarely.

I currently have no NT workstations. They are all Windows 2000 using Office 2000.
