Automatically switch to Microsoft Updates Without Visiting Website?

by jax1 . Updated 19 years, 5 months ago

We have several remote sites with about 5 to 20 workstations at each site.
We can set GPOs to schedule automatic updates, but many of the workstations only have “Windows Update” and we need to get them all to use “Microsoft Updates” so Office will also be automatically updated at the scheduled time.
It would be too time consuming to log in to every workstation and manually go through the web-based prompts.
WSUS will not be used.

Is there some way to do get all the workstations getting patches for Windows and Office through Microsoft Updates through a vbscript or batch file pushed through a GPO or startup script?

I’m surprised that Microsoft doesn’t provide an automated, unattended way to convert from Windows Update to Microsoft Update rather than require that it be done through the web site.
