Autonumber Macro that disables when file saved?

I have a macro on an excel workbook which increases the document number (in a Cell) by 1 each time the file is opened. However when that file is then saved as number X and then re-opened it becomes X+1. However i need the file to stay as Number X as that is that files designated unique number. Anyone have any ideas on this as i am stumped!
