Recently my boss spent 3 hours updating a Word doc in Word 97. After opening a second Word doc he clicked on the close application button rather than the close document button. He clicked yes when prompted ‘do you want to close all documents without saving?’. After re-opening the 1st doc he realised than none of his changes had been saved and because Word had closed cleanly, ie it didn’t crash, the autorecovery document had been deleted.
Does Word 97 have a autosave function, as opposed to the autorecovery option (which appears useless in this situation unless Word crashes) that will save changes with or without prompting?
It seems strange that Excel has this functionality yet Word does not.
