availablity of instant messages apps

may i know how can i check if a office networks allows the various form of instant messages application, such as irc, icq, msn messager, yahoo messenger etc?

i remember there was such an article presented sometime ago but i can't find it.
could some direct me to that article?

The ideal thing to do is to get in touch with your network administrator. It is against some company's policy to allow the use of messanger service from behind the firewall. 'Port scan' if downloaded from the Internet can give you required information for you to know if the ports are blocked by your firewall or not.

The best policy is to send a quick email to your network administrator.
