You need to copy the CD onto your hard drive, and use a program that allows you to emulate a CD drive with your hard drive.

Hekko Virtual CD is 1.

There are others listed at www.nonags.com under Disk Tools.

While The Chas has the most effective solution (I think he was raised with a joystick to suck on instead of a soother)as usual, there are some other less 'Professional' ways to run without the CD.

Many games can be run this way by using Cracks orNO CD patches found on Gaming websites.

WARNING!!!!
These cracks are ususally pretty sloppy code and may not work or even worse screw up you game install.

I use them when I borrow a game but don't want to copy it or create a virtual drive.Just do a search on any engine for the name of your game followed by NO CD or Crack.

It depends on the game. Like the makers of UnReal Tournament2K3 have provided a couple of patches(2199 and 2225). The latter allows for play without the CD in the drive. I will agree that some cracks are poorly written however www.gamecopyworld.com is a decent source for no-CD patches. Just get the right patch for your specific version of the game. Usually the .exe files have to be the same size for these cracks to work from this site.

A full CD is about 650MB of data. Todays computers have hard drives well beyond 40GB (4000MB). Let's assume you have at least a 20GB hard drive.

What you need to do is create a folder on your hard drive and copy every single file and folder on the CD into the newly created folder.

Now run SUBST. this is a DOS program that creates a drive letter which represents a folder.

If you copied the CD to lets say mycd in the root of your hard drive, then click on start, run, and type subst G: c:\mycd and press enter.

If the contents of the CD dont appear under the new drive letter, go to start, run, and type G: and press enter.

You may have to change G: to something else followed by the colon if the G drive already exists.

Now, go to the registry if your game is for a 32-bit windows OS and do a search for \ and replace D with the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive you used when you installed the game. Change D to G (the new drive). If you are unsure whether to change a certain entry or not, do it anyways. If you see any that start with c:\, ignore them, because they relate to the system.

Do the same to the INI files created by the game.

I still think it is better running 1/2 the game off the CD.

Hi,
The easiest way to do this is to go to www.gamejackal.com and install Game Jackal. It is designed to do specifically what you are after, no virtual drives are installed, no ?cracks? are used? In fact your original game?s installation is untouched! The developers have done an excellent job in solving the no cd issue.

try making an image file and then mounting it on a viritual drive using alcohol 120% from www.alcohol-soft.com. You can set your date back after the trial period expires, or send me your email and i can email you the patch to register it.
