I’m running an AMDK6-3 450 processor w/Award BIOS, 2A5LEL1B. Mother board is 5MVP3. I’m trying to install a 40GB HDD but it won’t detect it in auto. I put the old HDD (4GB) and the R/W drive on the same cable (Primary M/S). The new HDD is on thesecond cable (Secondary Master). The computer hangs if I set the jumper on the new HDD for Master. I assume it should be on Master if no other IDE devices are on the cable. Since it hangs and I need to use the computer, I’ve added another jumper. The two jumpers are set according to the WESTERN DIGITAL guide book (both at the end of the jumper block, i.e. the 4th and 5th jumper.) Reading the mother board book tells me that my BIOS probably needs upgrading. The Award website is less than friendly. How do I get the computer to see the new drive?
