back-up tape problem

By pottenhausen ·
Using Windows XP Professional, a system backup has been created that writes the backup to a file and then to a CD. Once the CD has been formatted it works perfectly for several days doing dialy scheduled backups, and then stops writing to the CD? It appears that the CD loses it's format?

First off, CD's and DVD's are not considered to be optimum backup media. They just don't hold data as long as tape does.

Second, I have seen CD-RW disks loose their format at random. They are in many respects less reliable than floppy disks.

Third, and perhaps more specific to your problem, both CD and CD-RW disks have a fixed area for the file table. Once you exceed the file table size, the CD is a coaster.
