    Background Picture

    Locked

    by gbalonek ·

We have a Windows 2000 PC that has a background picture that only shows up when the PC starts up (before logging in) and when it is logged off. The picture is the normal Windows Background when it is logged in. How do I get rid of it?

I have run Adware and Spybot.

Try removing the background picture and set it to none. Click apply and okay and reboot. Once rebooted you should not see the other picture and can set the one you would like.

The setting is in the registry hive for the .DEFAULT user.

The registry key that controls the login background, and subsequent users created is:

      HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\Wallpaper

The default value without a picture is “(None)” (without quotes).

If it is already set to none than select a background picture and hit apply and ok. Reboot and then change it back to none and hit apply and ok. Reboot one last time and this other picture should be gone.

The picture shows up only when the PC is not Logged In (Ctrl-Alt-Del).

You can also go into the Windows File Folder and look for the image as a bitmap. Scroll slow enough down the page for all of the bitmaps to load as icon images and you will see the image. click on it nd delet it. Remebr to emty the recycle bin and then reboot. After that the computer will go back to it’s original background image that was used when you first purchased the computer. You then just go and choose the image you want and click on use as background image.
