Backing up and converting HD's.......

By d_sandiford ·
Is there a backup software for windows that will;

A). Allow me to backup,zip and burn to DVD an entire HD, OS and all?

B). Can it take say, a win 2000 HD off an old pc, back it up or copy it, convert it all to win XP HD on the new machine\pc?

A) A dvd only holds from 4.7GB (single layer) or about 8.5GB (double layer) Not very much for backing up an entire Hard Drive. Your DVD Burner software (you need DVD burner hardware) will come with your DVDRW Hardware.

B)This depends on if the software and drivers are compatible and supported in XP. Also all hardware must match the HCL available from Microsoft.

The Backup normally compress the data and save it as a single file. So there is no need for another compression. You may always take a complete backup and there are tools that are available for download which can help you span multiple CDs/DVDs if the backup size exceeds the disk size.

Go to http://www.download.com and search for Backup.

or a few that I found useful are,

This should help.
