Backing up Exchange 2K

By jorge.gonzalez ·
Is the NT back up feature in Win2K reliable to back up Exchange mailboxes and restore mailboxes?

any comments are appreciated.

We have an Exchange 2k backing up to another server in the domain, but i would like to make sure we are able to restore mailbox in a "fly"

Thanks

the best solution I have found Is backupexec. You can do brick level backups of the exchange server. Meaning you can backup individual mailboxes and you do not have to stop the exchange server services like you do with windows backup. You can restore a 1 gig mailbox in about 20 minutes with this solution and no one else will loose a bit of data.

Another idea is to automate the proccess of MBX recovery with exmerge. If Harddisk space isn't the worry, so you can schedule exmerge to make pst files at night to an Share or Harddisk. For the case that someone loss is Mail or MBX, you can give him his PST File right at the place with the time stamp of last night. No restore method is faster and easier to handle than that.

You will find exmerge under Support on the orginal Exchange Server CD.
