Backing up mailboxes with Backup exec

By williamoshea ·
Dear colleagues,
I have Veritas backup exec running on one server and the remote agent on another (exchange server). When i try to select the mailboxes for it to backup, it asks me for accounts details. I have created a service account and granted the accounts admin rights, but it is still asking for log in details.
How do i go about backing up these mailbosex. i am using exchange 2000 and backup exec server is running on Win2003 standard edition.
thank you.

Did you grant the account Exchange admin rights as well?

Same Issue

by celemcs In reply to u req agent for exh

I am having the same issue and cannot figure it out.
Backup Exec with Exchange Agent installed... Exchange 2003 Server running on Windows 2000 Server.
My problem happened when I had an Exchange server crash and rebuilt the Directory Services (yep, all running on same server).
After Directory Services were recovered... the Backup Exec program never worked the same with regard to the Individual Mailboxes. It will backup the Information Store... just not the Individual Mailboxes.

Any ideas?

Admin Rights Account

The admin account you have created for Veritas Backup exec needs to have a mailbox account and the mailbox account MUST not be hidden. check this in AD under User Properties and Exchange Advanced.

I had the same problem and that resolved it for me.

You also need the Exchanage Mgmt console loaded to perform bricks level backups (mailbox.msg, etc) I do believe.
