BackPack External CD-Roms

I'm trying to install a backpack cd-rom to a dell with win95. It does not recognize the cd but if I put the same cd-rom on a different system running win95 it does fine. I've changed all parallel ports and i've even changed the motherboard but stillno dice.I'm trying despritely am trying to hold on to the OS can anyone help . Thanks in advance, Scott.

Check your documentation for your backpack CD-ROM. What does it tell you that the parallel port operation is susposed to be? EPP or ECP? These are normally accessed in your BIOS. There should be a Parallel Port setting where you can select ECP or EPP.

I've tried changing the ports to ECP,EPP and even BI directional but still no luck.

Is that a Micro-Solutions Backpack drive. If it is go to their website and get updated drivers.

I've used the most current drivers from the web and have even used some "dated" drivers but still.............nothing.

Load the dos drivers in the config.sys and autoexec.bat and see if it finds it there.
