If you have to start backing up client machines maybe you have outgrown your peer to peer network and need to think about creating a centrally managed domain. Once upgraded you have several options for backing up user data. One option is to use a product like Arcserve which can backup servers and workstations. There are other products such as Veritas NetBackup and Backup Exec which would also work.
The need to backup machines is basic and not related to outgrowing peer to peer. I do not want to buy a backup solution for each machine nor do I WANT TO create a domain. I am only talking 4 PC and 6 MACs with little if any growth potential.
I'm one of those blessed with a large peer to peer network. We Have Linux, NT, 95, 98, 2000, and Macs. We use Retrospect with a 24GB tape drive. It does require a client per backed up station. Go to http://www.dantz.com for more information. Feel free to email me if I can help.
If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Also please exercise your best judgment when posting in the forums--revealing personal information such as your e-mail address, telephone number, and address is not recommended.
