Backup Exec 8.0 for Netware 5.0 server

by epait . Updated 23 years, 11 months ago

I run a Netware 5.0 server and run nightly (Full)backups using backup Exec 8.0 with 12GB/24GB tapes. My luck, while on vacation my backup son ran into a problem where the server was asking for a another backup tape. I checked my backup job and it showed that hardware compression was checked. Viewing my volumes via a windows properties..I saw that my volumes were adding up to 12.73 GB. This job was set up before I took over this network so I am trying to exclude some directories that are old from the backup to make room on the tape. I have purged and deleted some data and got down to 11.95GB. Am I to assume this is uncompressed or compressed that is showing on my 3 volumes sys, work, data. I am not that familar with the workstation backup client software so end up using the server console to edit backup jobs. I found where I can go into backup and exclude files. But how do I save that to my nightly backup. I have checked Veritas website and my manaual and it olny tells you how tochange time and frequency of an already created nightly backup. Any help would be apprecited. I presently use DDS3 12GB/24GB Sony tapes and saw there is a 20GB/40GB tape that is a DDS4. Would that be compatible. This server has 3 years or more ofold data and programs that are sometimes accessed since this is a CPA office so I hate to remove them. I moved all the old programs and data to a new directory and want to exclude that directory from my backup (Full). I took a new tape and backed up only that directory for easy restores if something happens.

thanks,
Rob
