I had to run “System Recovery with Backup” on a home computer using XP that had an unremovable virus. All the data files are in the backup file on the C drive (no external backup drive exists), and I just need to know how to get the data files back into operation. Do I need to download the software again (like iTunes, and photo editing)? I’ve moved most of the files into “documents and settings” and tried opening the .exe files, but I haven’t had much success – the internet connection is messed up (from a very local provider), so I’m stuck. A friend suggested I copy the backup file(s) to an external hard drive and then… what? Follow the restore tips from the Microsoft website?
