I will start with a question, How many of you check your backups by comparing the amount of data on the drive to the actual backup amounts?
We were told by our backup software vendor that this was the only way to be sure we are backing everythingup following a backup problem. One of our backup jobs was missing over 5 gigabytes of data and calling no errors. The file structure was in place, but empty. They can’t tell us why this happened or offer any solutions other than upgrade ($) to their latest version.
Any experiences in this area would be greatly appreciated. Because we backup almost 200 servers in over 40 locations, a manual check would be a full-time job for someone, not to mention impossible for an incremental or differential backup.
