Backup Policy.

By iamsanchez ·
I'm not sure how much detail information is needed to receive a general answer to a general question about backups.

Could someone, kindly, give me some pointers or direct me to technical and management information about data management and how todefine and implement a backup policy.

I'd be happy to provide detail information about my environment if necesary.

Thank you.

Back up problem

by chuksanah In reply to Try this out

I also am in charge of back up administration. the weekend back ups always need to be aborted because come monday morning it is always asking for more tapes. we use four 35c tapes for the novell back ups. i was wondering if someone could assist me in finding out why the above always occurs. I am ready to furnish whoever replies with more information.

Your best bet may be to supervise the weekly backup to see what happens in real time. Then you can try giving more tapes to see if the problem may be something like, for instance, compressed files becoming uncompressed for the backup or one of the weekly backup tapes is bad (assuming you reuse weekly tapes for weekly backups) or the software is trying to append to the tapes rather than overwrite.

Good luck in your troubleshooting.
