Backup set has "disappeared"

By Numbies ·
I needed to rebuild my PC so took a tape backup using the built-in Windows 98 backup utility (Veritas). After backing up I tested it and could restore files so I formatted and re-installed Windows. To my horror, when I tried restoring my files I received a message saying that the media does not contain any backup sets - even when I try to refresh the restore options???

It's been a while since i've used seagate/veritas... but to my recollection you will need to rebuild your backup by directing the software to "rebuild catalog" (the terminology may not be exact) and pointing the process to the tape cartridge.

The media generally looks to a catalog on the hdd... by formatting you removed that catalog. It should be on your backups.
