I currently have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 running Win2008R2 server, and a few WinXP Pro systems with server application software installed. As with any business up time is crucial and meeting the demand of a system failure to restore a server to online status until the hardware can be repaired is my objective.
Is there any backup solution that can backup a server in real-time to allow, if a hardware disaster was to occur, a virtual server to be used as server until hardware can be replaced and the current virtual server to be mirrored to new hardware?
Our current backup is backing up only the SQL database and required file locations on the PE2900, and the XP Pro systems only back up the server software needed to restore services on another XP machine. I would like to have in place something more practical and reliable in order to minimize downtime. Also I would like a reputable backup solution for offsite backup as well.
Thank you for any comments or solutions you may have.
