Backup Tape Drive performance

By digitweak ·
Currently we're running a DDS-3/Veritas Backup Exec 7.3 combo on our 70gb server. The combo of the DDs-3 tape (24gb) and Veritas has been problematic since I took over the position of CTO. I'm about ready to dump both products. I'm currently reviewing the possiblity of trying the Onstream SC50 device with our copy of Veritas 7.3. Anyone have experience with the Onstream drive(s)?.

The data is expected to grow significantly over the next few years, and the autoloader (ADIC Scalar-480/software combo(CA's Arcserve-IT)should work well for us.
I hear that Exabyte's Mammoth-2 is faster (~2x), but have no experience with this product. It is probably worth looking in to.
Recent Veritas's product reviews state that it is supposed to be much easier to install and use than CA's Arserve-IT. Veritas recently stated that their product can read CA's Arcserve-IT products, so if youhave older CA ArcSer

We purchased an OnStram Echo 30G that hasn't given us any problems.

Good Luck
