Backup with Windows 95 & 98

By alex ·
Is it possible to use the backup option in system tools and backup files over the network instead of using a tape drive with Win95 and Win98?

Yes, if I understand the question. Tell the Backup program you do not have a device. The program will ask where you want to back up to. Point it to your network drive\directory. The qic file will end up on your network instead of a tape drive.

There are two things to watch for when using Microsoft's Backu program. 1) When overwrite is selected instead of append (the program forces overwrite when backing up to a hard drive)it overwrites the previous data set BEFORE it checks to see if a backup is necessary. Therefore, you could run a backup, then run another backup where nothing needs to be backed uo (nothing changed) and the previous data set will be gone. If your computer crashes before the next backup, you'll loose all of your data. 2) You should always get your data off-site. I'd recommend e-vaulting.
