Hello,
I am using an external Western Digital 160GB Hard Drive to store all my data. Recently I have had a few problems editing one or two files (out of thousands) that were stored on that drive. The app would hang and crash when trying to save.
Today, when i plugged in the USB Drive, instead of seeing the name of my drive in explorer, i see “Local Disk (K:)” and the drive could not be browsed. Said the disk is NOT FORMATTED! So I ran a chkdsk /f /r on it. It DID repair the problem but in the process it did report having about 20 bad clusters. Is this normal? I notice that some of the files I could not edit were actually on BAD CLUSTERS when running the chkdsk.
Does this mean i got a shot drive??? Its pretty much brand new. Also, i do carry it around alot, could physical damage cause this? It seems like a file system error, but i am not sure. Does Bad Cluster mean physical hardware issue? Could i have banged it around too much or something? Are the bad clusters normal?
Thanks!!!
Adam
