Hi,
I previously had Win98 installed, giving me a lot of headaches with bluescreens. All of my browsers crashed before I was finished with them, most other programs would crash, and the system would lock at indiscriminate times.
I formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Win98, getting much the same problems. I used various registry scans and virus scans with no errors. The amount of time dealing with blue screens and program failures was roughly equal to proper usage time.
I again formatted the drive and installed Windows ME. It performs considerably better, with internet programs lasting longer. However,
using programs like browsers, email, or windows explorer generated errors about 40% of the time. The errors were usually in
MSHTML.DLL
MSHTMLED.DLL
KRNL386.EXE
CONTROL.DLL
USER.EXE.
What vexed me was Windows Explorer failing half the time, citing errors in MSHTML.DLL.
Any ideas of what I’m up against?
Should I try Win2000?
What are some things to look at or try?
Should I format ALL partitions on a drive, not just the primary?
Help or advice much appreciated.
