Bad LCD repair hurts System Board on Thi

By anejako ·
Dear All:

Recently I had a ThinkPad 560X in the shop to replace a cracked LCD screen. The LCD screen was replaced with a new one, and the laptop was functioning well.

Now it's three months later, and the system board is broken. If you turn onthe laptop, the lights turn on, but it automatically goes into Suspend mode. Nothing you can do stops this Auto-Suspend, not even booting from a boot disk.

Is there a possibility that the people doing the service on the LCD screen messed up the System Board somehow?

Thanks in advance for your help.

ThinkPads (or StinkPads as I call them) are notorious battery eaters. Pull the battery and go to AC power. Boot the system and you should have no probs. If you do you may need to get in the BIOS and disable any power management settings in the BIOS, if that BIOS will let you....IBM didn't do really well on ThinkPad's BIOS.

If the laptop has been working for 3 months; it's going to be hard to blame it on the LCD panel install. In my opinion; I would say no...

To answer your question: It is unlikely that the people doint service on the LCD messed up the System Board.

Based on the limited information presented, my best guess is that your battery is dead. Do you always run on AC power? If so, this is not a good thing; it tends to kill the battery. A dead battery (one that can't be charged or hold a charge) would cause the computer to auto-suspend or hibernation. Try replace the battery with a known good battery. To extend your battery life, itis always good to allow the battery to fully drain before re-charging. Hope this is helpful, JDKline

I agree that the LCD replacment is an unlikly candidate. Does this happen with the ac plugged in, and does the ac light turn on? If you have a bad cord or converter the battery would of course drain. If you don't have a spare take it by a shop and see if you can get them to plug it in to test it.

Thanks--I will re-check whether the AC adapter has anything to do with this--thanks for the cord-checking advice, too.
