Bad Upgrade — Has anyone experience this problem

In August 2008 it was time to renew my antivirus software with Symantec. Had a few problems downloaded the software but got everything installed. There will not many setting to set in Norton 2008 software but I figured everything would be OK.

Three day later it prompted my wife for one button cure and I said it should by OK. When we re-booted the machine, the network services where gone. No internet, no dial up, and no home area network. So it tried re-loaded the software but it would not load because it could not find simple TCP/IP services.

Symantec was no help and I could not find how to re-load simple TCP/IP. I search the WEB including Microsoft with no results. Finally I had to recover the HP from the DVD because Norton had disabled recover from the hidden D drive with all the factory setting. I cancel my Symantec subscription and when with McAfee.

After re-building my HP Pavilion and everything was back to normal. My wife got a prompt from HP to updated the HP software on the machine. I look at what would be updated and decided to install. After the install, none of the HP software would run. The message said to un-install and try again.

The drive letter for the DVD/CD RW and DVD/CD Rom were gone. I re-booted and they came back with a problem. If you put a CD disk in drive E, the directory would show up in drive L. If you put a disk in drive L the directory would show up in drive E.

I called HP for help since it was their upgrade the cause the problem. They wanted to charge me for a fix even if it was their software that caused the problem.

AS it stands, I have a PC that needs to be recovered but my wife think everything is OK.
