Basic Disks vs Dynamic

by cthomas . Updated 23 years, 4 months ago

Howdy Folks…doing some reading on Microsoft’s website and believe I’ve found a discrepancy. Please see the blurb below:

“WARNING: Upgrading a disk to dynamic storage will render the entire disk unreadable to operating systems other than Windows2000. This is a one-way process. In order to change back to basic disk format, the drive must be repartitioned.”

This does not jibe with what I’m seeing in practice. We have a mixed bag of 2000 Pro and 98 machines (mostly 98) that point to the server in question to get virus definitions and for weekly virus scans. So, to me it seems like they are reading the NTFS dynamic disk. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks for any info.
