Battery Driver not found for Dell Latitude

By jdclyde ·
Greetings one and all.

Just got a hand-me-down Dell Latitude D810, just had to do a wipe and load to reasure previous owner their old data was gone.

Loaded XP Pro SP3, then downloaded the drivers from the Dell site based on the service tag. Everything is working great.

Only problem I am having is under the hardware list, the first thing listed is "Batteries" with three "unknown devices" listed beneith it, each with the Yellow Exclamation point.

At bootup it keeps wanting me to install the driver, but can't find it anywhere?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

From Dell

did you load all the drivers?

There may be ones for the motherboard that may include the battery.

I would also reset the BIOS to factory defaults, and check on the Dell site for bios updates, since this may just be a BIOS quirk.

Had already done all the drives for the laptop

and no deals. Bios was already at the most current.

Problem was solved, posted at end.

Sounds like you might need...

by scndtnr In reply to Battery Driver not found ... replace the AC adapter. The bricks contain a chip that communicates with the motherboard to monitor battery charge status, etc. One way to test this is to connect a known good adapter and see if the device list situation clears up.

Did all that were listed

sorted by the service tag, and it gave the version of the utility for the laptop.

Was missing BATT.DLL, problem solved

Copied the file from another system, pointed to that, "problem" solved.

Don't know why the file would be on my desktop but not on a clean install for the laptop.

That Dell I just redid for work has three 'base devices' with question marks. I wonder. Just might be battery related...

Thumb for you.
