BDC not showing up in Network

By hawksberry ·
I have a Windows NT PDC BDC and Member Server. The BDC is not showing up in Network Neighborhood but I can get to it by typing in the UNC. How can I correct this?

Look at the PDC active protocols and compare them with the BDC. They should be the same. If you have MS NetBEUI on the PDC, it should also be on the BDC. If you do not have MS NetBEUI on the PDc, you should not need it on the BDC.

Check the master broswer settings in the registry. Check if you are getting contstant browser elections in event viewer. Check your hosts and lmhosts files on both machines. And check your member server as well.

Computers not appearing in Network Neighborhood indicate a broswer problem.

question is the PDC and BDC on the same network segment or is the names resolution over WINS or LMHOSTs. If this is the case this make sure the configuration is OK? Ping PDC from BDC and visa versa by hostname? If the Servers are on the same networksegment and the are using the same protocol. If TCP/IP is the protocol then check the IP address and subnet mask.

Maybe someone had hidden the server from the network? Try this command. First from a command prompt

net config server /hidden:no
