beeping noise

By computab ·
on a Compaq Presario X1000 laptop, it makes a string of beep sounds at startup, following an internal power supply failure that was repaired. Is there any way of silencing the internal speaker through the BIOS or disconnecting inside?

I think the beeps probably indicate that you still have some sort of problem going on. Does the system finish booting even with the beeps or does it hang at some point?

Yes, you can unplug the connector for the speakers but that may also cause a fault too. The beeps are most likely memory failure, and the P/S shut down may indicate the memory cards are not seated properly. Did you do the repair?? Are you confident that this isn't self induced by the previous repair effort?? The units are subject to faults caused by dirt in the power supply areas, causing only partial boots before shutting down.

The string of beeps are known as beep codes. They can be long, short, and/or have pauses in them. then after a long pause, it recycles and does the code again.
In order to best diagnose the problem, we would need the beep code (haw many beeps, long or short, pauses). like this (3 short, pause, 1 long). Then the code can be looked up for your model system.
Aside from that, I would think that going to the Bios may tell something, maybe misconfigured. Or, something is loose. If you received it from a shop, take it back. If you or a friend repaired it, check to see if anything is not plugged in properly. Also, if you were not careful, you may have zapped a chip without static protection...
