Belkin Firewire ExpressCard Install problems.

By elia12978 ·
Hello I am having a horrible time trying to install a belkin Firewire ExpressCard. The card has two 6 pin firewire ports. The computer is a zv6100 laptop. The card is supposed to be plug and play but I am having errors in my device manager. below is a description of whats happening. I am running XP Home SP2.

1.When I put the card in the pci express slot windows xp detects the card and says:

a) Found PCI to PCI bridge
b) Found standard PCI to PCI bridge.
c) Windows is done installing your new hardware but there is a problem. For this device to work you have to reboot windows.

2.Then a window pops up titled ?System settings? and says: Windows has finished installing your device. The software that supports your device requires that you restart your computer.

3.After I reboot none of my network devices work. The network adapters in the device manager is no longer there.

4. Windows again reconizes the new hardware and says "Found IEEE 1394 device"

5.In the device manager the following items are added, but have yellow ! points on them.

a)IEEE 1394 BUS host controllers
!Texas Instruments OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 Host controller

b)System devices
! PCI standard PCI to PCI bridge

6.My network adapters are no longer in the device manager.

7.If I take the express card out and reboot the network adapters comes back and my network is ok

So far I have updated my Bios, updated the chipset, searched for windows drivers, and also
drivers off the HP site. Talking to HP tech support is like talking to my newborn.

There is no driver that belkin has for this card.

That is about all I can think of. If anyone could help I would be greatful.

I recently was able to get my express card to
work after rebooting, but my network devices were still not available. Also after I took the card out and then put it back I was no longer able to get it working. I would have to again reboot with the card in to get it working. Seems there is some sort of conflict between the Network adapters, Firewire, and/or ExpressCard.

Same problem here.....

by techrepublic In reply to Belkin Firewire ExpressCa ...

Not much help, of course, but I can tell you that I have exactly the same problem with an Acer Travelmate 8215 and a Belkin FireWire 800 ExpressCard. I have contacted Belken support who, as I expected, first tries to blame all other possible (and impossible) error sources. I?ll let you know if I get a solution for my problem. It seems to be the same as yours.

Best regards,

I have exactly the same problem. I was wondering if any fixes have emerged? I'm bleeding desperate, I am. I really need those extra Firewire-ports.
